IUPUI Indy 500 Collection Note the side tanks that easily ruptured-Seymours car was destroyed by fire in 39 and on May 7, 1940 in practice-shortly before this photo was taken George Bailey crashed and died in a similar fire. The AAA asked that the Barringer entry be withdrawn- Barringer drove the second 'Pay-Day' car and finished 14th then took the Gulf Miller car to Bonneville and set two dozen Class D speed records.
